A Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend and A Birthday

May 23-25, Sat.-Mon.  Wow! We had three cookouts on one weekend!  Saturday, the campground had a cookout with the usual hotdogs, hamburgers, and bratwursts.  Doug made his famous potato salad as our contribution.  Each dish that was brought was very good!  Out of the entire campground, only about 20 people showed up.  The smaller crowd was fine and we got to meet another nice couple that are headed out West this fall.  We got to share our adventures of the West with them because they have never been before.

Then just a couple of hours after the 1st cookout, we were due at my son’s in-laws’ house to celebrate my grandson Josh’s 5th birthday.  We picked up Mom and Dad and took them with us.  It was nice to be together with family once again.  Don’t Mom and Dad look great for Dad at 94 and Mom at 92! ??   I hope I have those genes!  Getting to spend more time with my son was another treat.  The grand-kids are such nice young people and look taller every time I see them.

Josh was so cute and excited.  We had some good food.  Some we liked the taste but just weren’t sure what was in it.  Jo Anna’s family are Rumanian and eat lots of healthy foods.  I think Josh thought the best food was his cake!  We all love an ice cream cake from a local ice cream store that specializes in making them.

Of course, the fun part for any child is the opening of presents.  Josh likes Legos so I was able to find a Legos camper, since we are taking him camping for the first time.  What a nice time we all had watching Josh celebrate his birthday.

Our third cookout was Sunday at my cousin’s house.  This cookout was with an uncle and cousins from my dad’s side of the family.  My cousin’s husband is in charge of the 2 military campgrounds.  We didn’t know that until about 3 years ago when we visited other cousins.  They told me another cousin, that I hadn’t seen in about 30 years, was coming.  She walked in and then her husband came in.  We were just so surprised to see him as the guy from the campground.  We laughed about not knowing we were related to him through marriage, even after all the previous times we had been to the campground, and never knew of our connection.  Small world!  My cousin has a beautiful backyard.  It was breezy and cool in the nice shade of her big trees.  Her flowers were blooming so we had a great setting for our cookout.  More hotdogs, hamburgers, brats, and watermelon, plus other dishes that were brought.  Everything was delicious.  It was so much fun talking with the cousins and uncle again after being away for almost 2 years.

  1. Love those cookouts. We had one here in the park for the few of us that are left. We had 12 folks show up and had a great time. Mom and Dad really do look fantastic for their age. It's great that they were able to make the get together.
