Memphis, TN (Millington, TN)

April 29-May 2, Wednesday.  Well, here we are at military base #6!  Nice that we have that benefit and the price is right, plus we have beautiful weather and cloudless skies.  The Millington Naval Support Activity base is just on the North side of Memphis.  This campground is nicer than others because it just seems maintained better and the grass is cut.   The only downfall are the trees that are shedding.  I tried to find out the name but couldn’t identify it.  There are little pollen covered “wings” that are everywhere!  When the wind is blowing, it looks like it is snowing!  We have to sweep the steps and mat off several time a day, and will certainly have to sweep off the top of the slides just before we leave.  The little yellow “wings” are so thick that they have formed clumps around every ground surface.  Hey, it is Springtime after all.

Yep, Memphis, home of Graceland! Home of “The King” of rock n’ roll.  Elvis Presley January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977.  And NO, we are not going!  We walked around Graceland many years ago.  Funniest place I have ever seen!  Little old ladies with pink pants, Elvis jackets, Elvis purses,  etc., and overweight Elvises roaming the streets.  Hilarious! Too ridiculously overpriced to see the inside of Graceland, so not for me.  Many years ago, I did sign a friend’s name on Graceland's wall and took a picture for that friend who still believes Elvis is alive and well somewhere!  It seems the thing to do is write your name and date on the wall at Graceland.  All the walls are completely covered with signatures of adoring fans.  Probably in a couple of more generations, the young people won’t even know who Elvis was.  I do still have the old 45 record of Elvis singing ‘Love Me Tender’.  Many years ago the value was around $800, so who knows what it might be worth today.  Funny, I did attend an Elvis impersonator concert at a local hangout back in Virginia Beach when I was a very young adult in my late 20s.  He was pretty good!

Our next stop will be in Sevierville, TN, next to Pidgeon Forge near the Smoky Mountains National Park, so I can go to my favorite scrapbooking store again!  It is a huge one and  their "sale" store next door is just as big!  I stopped there 18 months ago on our way out West, so I am just looking for the unusual that I can't get elsewhere.   As if I really need more scrapbooking supplies!!  Strange to be exactly right back where we started our last trip West from Va. Beach, VA.
