Where is the Sun!? It is Still Cold and Rainy! UCK!

We may get just a bit of sun tomorrow and Wednesday and I am ready for it!  Two RVers stuck inside too long, makes for VERY grouchy moods!  It was another good day to get my scrapbooking up to date, plus a little country music is always nice.  Not much to do in this kind of weather but we did find Cracker Barrel!  San Antonio is a huge city and the traffic is just as heavy as any other large city.  The city of San Antonio is one of the oldest European settlements in Texas.  Before Spanish colonization, the site was occupied for thousands of years by varying cultures, and Indians are those who encountered the first Europeans.  A Spanish fort was built in 1717.  A Catholic mission and trading post were also established, and the town developed as the capital of Tejas, a province of colonial Spain.  After Mexico achieved independence in 1821, pioneers settled the region. In 1835, Americans gained control of San Antonio in the fighting that gained independence for the Republic of Texas. There is so much interesting history surrounding the story of how Texas became a state.  Us OLDER folks remember the stories of the Alamo and used to watch  Davy Crockett on TV.

Also when we were here last, a city bus went to pull out at the stop light and ripped the right side mirror off the truck we had at that time.  It took about 6 months to get the insurance check from the city!  Good thing we were able to get all the paperwork they asked for.  Seems like they came up with a different requirement each time we called. But we got it settled and now I don’t like to ride anywhere next to a bus!

When we were here in the spring of 2008, we had such nice weather and were able to explore San Antonio.  I miss not being able to do much of that this trip. The best thing I remember is the Strawberry Festival about 30 miles south in Poteet. It is held the first part of April each year.  It is well worth the effort to go.  They have the food, of course, but also performing acts, and country western artists that give free concerts.  But the BEST part is the rodeo!  It is one of the best I have ever seen!  It had every rodeo event you could think of.  It was outdoors and I was able to get some good shots.  It lasted all day!  Here are just a few of my favorites.
